Managing Referrals

Referrals track requests to other services, specialists, or departments. The referrals view shows all referrals grouped by status.

How to Get There

Open a patient record and navigate to Clinical Record > Referrals.

Referral List

Referrals are displayed in two groups:

  • Active - open referrals awaiting completion
  • Closed - completed or cancelled referrals

Each referral row shows:

  • Service/specialty with a colour-coded priority badge
  • Reason summary (truncated)
  • Referred to and referred by (clinician names)
  • Location and date authored

Click a referral to open the detail sidebar.

The sidebar shows full referral information:

  • Service, specialty, and priority
  • Status badge (Active or Closed)
  • Reason summary
  • Recipient contact details (name, title, specialty, organisation, email, phone, address, registration body)

  • Date authored
  • Linked consultation (if created during a consultation)
  • Linked documents

Timeline

The referral timeline tracks:

  • Creation event with author
  • Status changes (from/to status, date, author, note)
  • Document linking events
  • PDF sharing events

Actions

  • Close Referral - opens a dialog with a closure reason dropdown
  • Generate PDF - create a shareable PDF of the referral
