Managing Lab Orders

The Lab Requests page lets you track all lab orders across your organisation, view their status, and monitor when results arrive.

How to Get There

Navigate to Reporting > Pathology and select the Lab Requests tab.

Order Table

The table shows all lab orders with:

  • Created - date and time the order was placed
  • Order Number - unique identifier (clickable to view details)
  • Patient - patient name (clickable to open their record)
  • Date of Birth
  • Tests - number of tests ordered
  • Status - current order status
  • Results - result status with count of results received
  • Requesting Clinician - who placed the order
  • Printed - when the request form was last printed

Filtering

Use the filter tabs at the top:

  • All - all orders
  • Outstanding - orders awaiting results
  • Received - orders with results ready for review
  • Processed - completed orders

You can also filter by status and date range.

Order Detail Sidebar

Click an order row to open the detail sidebar showing:

  • Order summary (patient, clinician, date)
  • Full list of tests ordered
  • Status timeline (each status transition with date and user)
  • Reprint - reprint the request form or specimen labels
  • Cancel - cancel the order (if not yet resulted)

Tip: Use the Outstanding tab to quickly see which orders are still waiting for results.

Order Lifecycle Tracking

Lab orders now display detailed lifecycle status updates from the lab provider. As your order progresses through collection, processing, and reporting, the status updates automatically.

You can also click Check for Updates on any order to manually poll the lab provider for the latest status — useful if you are expecting results soon.

Barcode Column

The lab orders table now includes a Barcode column showing the lab-assigned barcode for each order, making it easier to match physical samples to digital records.
