Filing Pathology Results

Pathology results from labs like TDL arrive in the filing queue as structured data with an accompanying PDF. The filing viewer gives you multiple ways to review them before filing.

Viewing Tabs

When you open a pathology result, the document viewer has several tabs:

Tab What It Shows
Preview A formatted summary of the result
Result Structured analyte table with values, units, reference ranges, and abnormal flags
PDF The original PDF from the lab, plus an annotated Jump PDF
Lab Documents Any linked reference documents
Details Extracted metadata (test name, order number, accession number, lab name)
Audit Timeline of all actions taken on this filing item

Reviewing Analytes

The Result tab displays each analyte as a row with:

  • Analyte name
  • Value and units
  • Reference range
  • Abnormal flag (highlighted if outside range)

Abnormal results are clearly flagged so you can identify them at a glance.

PDFs

Two PDF views are available:

  • Original PDF - the unmodified document from the laboratory
  • Jump PDF - an annotated version generated by Jump with structured formatting and patient details

You can download or print either version.

Filing a Pathology Result

  1. Review the analytes and PDF to understand the result
  2. Match the result to the correct patient (if not already matched)
  3. Add codes - optionally add SNOMED codes for clinical categorisation
  4. Create tasks - if follow-up is needed, create a task and assign it
  5. Send a message - notify the patient about their results if appropriate
  6. Finalise - click the finalise button to file the result to the patient's record

Once finalised, the result appears in the patient's Investigations section in their clinical record.

Abnormal Filter

In the filing queue sidebar, toggle Abnormal Only to show only lab results that contain at least one abnormal analyte. This helps you prioritise results that need clinical attention.

Tip: You can link a pathology result to an existing referral using the referral linker in the filing actions panel.
