Shared care

Shared care describes an arrangement where responsibility for a patient's ongoing treatment is split between two providers, commonly a specialist or private clinic and the patient's NHS GP, with each aware of what the other is doing.

Shared care depends on reliable communication: the specialist needs to send clear, structured updates to the NHS GP, and both sides benefit from being able to confirm that correspondence was actually received rather than just sent.
